Transcoding - Theater on Apple TV

Maybe I am wrong but wasn't there a transcoding option on the DVBLogic Theater app on the apple TV?
I can't find it now - and I am having issues streaming from my DVBLink Server to an apple tv over the internet. It works fine from the phone or Ipad where I just lower the quality of the transcoding in the Theater Clint on the phone or the Ipad until it stops lagging. But I can't find the transcoding option in the Theater app on Apple tv.
Why? Is it not possible to stream a transcoded signal to an apple tv? And if it is possible where do you set the bit rate?

This feature was removed from the Theatre for ATV4 as it is not a mobile device which you may carry. Usually it is a part of home smart system, which have a stable LAN (or WAN connection) for big screens(for which the hight resolution is required)

I am absolutely using the Apple TV as a mobile device - From my summerhouse, when visiting friends abroad plus my parents and brother are using an Apple TV to connect to my TV Server.

Am I really the only one using it like that?

Seems like an odd assumption to make about any client. Nothing restricts connections only to the local subnet(s).

Are there no plans to reintroduce the transcoding feature on the Apple4 tv client?

Use Kodi or MrMC instead on your Apple TV, to connect to your DVBLink server and enable trancoding in the DVBLink PVR addon.

Thanks. I did install MrMC on my Apple TV last night, but I did not figure out how to connect it to my DVBLink server.
I could not find any guides on how to install or enable the DVBLink PVR addon.
Can anybody help with how to do this or a useful link to understand how to do that?

Go to :

- Settings
- TV

Under General:
- set "Enabled"

Under Client specific:
- Select "PVR Clients"

From there you can set up your "DVBLink PVR Client"

That was easy - embarrasing easy...

The only problem is that transcoding does not work, which was the whole point...
When transcoding is disable everything works fine. When I enable transcoding in the DVBLogic addon in MrMC then only the recordings can be displayed, the live tv no longer is working.

Do you have transcoded live tv working on MrMC on an apple TV?

I am using a windows dvblink server with HDHomerun.

Transcoding live tv works for me on MrMC.

In MrMC, you only need to set desired transcoding bitrate in the DVBLink PVR and leave height and width at zero.

Did you enable video transcoding on the DVBLink server and is your DVBLink server hardware capable enough for video transcoding ?

Transcoding is enabled on the DVBLink Server, I use transconding on the IOS DVBLink client on my Ipad all the time without any problems. In the original DVBLink app to Apple TV they also supported transcoding, which worked fine. The server is reasonable strong windows machine which also runs Plex where normally 2-3 streams are transcoded in parallel without problems.

Hmm...maybe I need to open a new topic the right place with some log files - not sure what the right log files would be though.

Transcoding works in the MRMC app on Apple TV 4 4k - but not on the old Apple TV 4
