XBMC "support" for DVBLink

Hey Oberon!

Thanks for releasing a addon for XBMC! A step in the right course!

But: why not wait for release of XBMC 12.0 with official PVR support and provide a full PVR client for XBMC?

BTW: I've translated the plugin strings to german. Are you interested?

Because
a) PVR functionality is not part of the official XBMC release
b) python code is directly portable to other platforms without recompilation
c) The addon is written specifically for DVBLink server and allows using server features to a maximum

When PVR functionality will become part of stable XBMC release the situation might change but for the time being we believe that this is the best way to go forward.

XBMC "support" for DVBLink

Postby Skandy » Mon Sep 10, 2012 12:20 pm

Hi Oberon,

does this add-on play streams "as-is" or consume transcoded ones?

My DVBLink Server runs on an Atom based WHS v1 and can't really handle transcoding..

Thanks.
*DVBLink for IPTV 4.5 and TVSource 4.5 on Windows Home Server v1
*Connect! Server 4.5 on WHS v1
*Network Client 4.5 on Windows 7 Media Center set as Default Recorder (Switched to XBMC on ATV2)
*iOS Clients on iPhone 4S, 3GS, iPad 2, Apple TV 2

As is. My home DVBLink client runs on first gen Atom/Ion and works pretty good with SD and HD content.

@Oberon

Now that XBMC will be including PVR support in release 12 (Pre-Frodo) will there be a move to have the DVBLink plugin enhanced to be selectable from the front XBMC bar (it's really annoying being hidden in Programs :-( ) I tested the XBMC version (with MPserver) and it integrated well, however I prefer the server benefits of DVBLink (even though there is no server version of XBMC!) and really am looking forward to seeing an integration with the Plex Media Server app. which is a true media server and client.

My thanks to the DVBLogic team for a great application.
