DVBLink TVSource is discussed here!

EPG Collector v4.0

Postby nzsjb » Sun Jul 08, 2012 8:00 am

EPG Collector v4.0 is now available on Sourceforge from here

https://sourceforge.net/projects/epgcollector/

This version adds the ability to optionally download movie and TV series metadata from the internet to enhance the data received from the broadcaster. The data added includes cast and crew, posters, star ratings and programme categories.

See the Release Notes and ReadMe for details.

To make use of the extra metadata things in DVBLink, do I understand correctly that I must use the XMLTV-method?

Congrats for the new release. And what a Read Me File! You should have spent lots of time to type that file, especially for the section 2.3 ;)

You can use any of the input methods in the plugin (TVSource does the import/EPG Collector does the import/create an xmltv file) with the metadata lookup.

The success ok the metadata lookup depends to a large extent on how 'mainstream' your TV programmes are.

Here in New Zealand for example we get a lot of American series and movies so when I run the metadata lookup against our FTA channels around 50% of the EPG entries have something added to them.

A small number will have the wrong information because a locally produced programme will have the same name as a globally broadcast programme but that still leaves a large percentage of successful hits.

hi, I'm currently using inbuilt EIT scanner for grabbing NZ EPG.
If I switched to EPG Collector, does this mean that I could potentially grab the mheg5 stream from the DVB-S2 channels like say Sky Sport9?
At the moment I have to take the HD channel sources and map to the SD EPG data as that generally seems to be broadcast in EIT format. The Problem I have at the moment is Sport9/10/11 which are HD only so there is no SD alternative to grab EIT data from.

If you are in the UK you would collect OpenTV.

You probably wouldn't bother with the EIT scanner then, just collect everything using OpenTV.

Hi nzsjb,

Thanx for the EPG collector!

I installed it and configured it for DVB-C in The Netherlands (Ziggo twente, EIT) and to let TVsource import the data into the MCE guide.

I also use the lookup feature, but there are no movie poster etc. loaded in the MCE guide.

Where does the EPG collector store these posters? so i can check if they are downloaded?

Regards,

@nzsjb
Can you please have a look here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=19004&p=62870#p62870

Apparently automatic channel mapping mechanism that EPG Collector is using clashes with the MCE's discovery of PBDA channels.

Maybe because it causes the match name to change?
