Digiguide Update Frequency

Postby Micromecca » Mon Jan 02, 2012 4:14 pm

Oberon, how often does the plugin fetch new data from Digiguide?
It has taken over 2 hours to process 30.3MB (14 days x 185 Channels) so far in my test environment, I was hoping to set it to collect 28 days for all of my (350) channels but at this rate that would have it fetching data constantly and overlapping its own time out value.

cheers
Marty

It fetches new information every 12 hours and it is only 2 weeks in advance (not 4).

Is the '<schedule_period_days>' value in digiguide_settings.xml not active? I was presuming that changing this value to 28 would allow me to download the full months guide?
and why has it taken over 2 hours to produce only 20MB of Guide Data in the schedules dir?

Correct, it will take 28 days in this case. 14 is the setting by default.
It just takes a long time to download data from Digiguide servers because of vast amount of data and correlations between several of their data structures. There is nothing we can do to speed it up.

OK, could you please add an option to the config file to change the download frequency in a future version?
I could then have it download 28 days worth of data every 168 hrs/7 days, giving me 3-4 weeks of data at any time.

cheers

It can be added with update_timeout_hours tag.

Awesome , I figured that value was to stop the update if it ran for over 12 hours (or the specified value)

No. Why would you need that?

If you were able to choose between setting an update frequency time (as it is at the moment) or being able to specify a time to update in a 24 hour period it would help no end for people who put their machines to sleep, such as here: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=15734
They could then schedule the machine to wake at a specified time and run the update.
