Boxee integration

Postby DVB_bwl » Sat Nov 12, 2011 5:15 pm

Am I right in thinking that the Boxee integration is for Linux based Boxee installs?

I was going to look at using Boxee on the Windows PC to see if it's any better than MCE.

If it's available for Windows Boxee as well, how do I get it installed? I can't find any reference to a download or installer for it on the site.

DVBLink Boxee app will work on any platform where Boxee itself can run - e.g. Windows, Linux, Mac and Boxee box itself.
The DVBLink app can be downloaded from our repository at http://www.dvblogic.com/boxee

Thank you. That was a short lived test. It would show Live TV, but wouldn't connect to the Channels or Guide, just sat with a spinning circle on the screen.

Looks like Boxee doesn't have some of the features I need anyway, there's no way of easy switching refresh rate I can see other than via the desktop. I have to switch between 50Hz and 24Hz regularly.

OK, back to MCE.

Whatever I try to use for my server, I always get a 'Error connection to DVBLink server'. The server's name is HTPC, I have tried that, but to no avail. Also, the servers IP doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

You have to install dvblink connect! server for boxee app to work. Also for v4.0.1 you need to enter port 8080 instead of 39876.

Great, port 8080 did the trick. Thanks Oberon!

Any idea how to change channels while watching live tv?

Thank you, I will try it out tonight.

i must say that I had a good picture on my Boxee install on my Windows 7 laptop. Just retreiving channel/guide is pretty slow (as it is on Android).

With the latest DVBLink Boxee app (which should have been downloaded automatically to your installation on start) only the first retrieval is slow. And the rest should be reasonably fast.

What do you mean exactly under "channel list"? There is a menu called "Channels and guide" leading you directly to a list of channels.

I gave Boxee a shot with the client as a possible alternative to WMC but It was nowhere near as useable and the picture nowhere near as crisp as WMC so all in all Its a big step forward for Boxee uusers but not a patch on WMC

I picked up a D-Link Boxee "box" yesterday just to give the Boxee application a spin to see if there was any possible way for it to replace my Xbox 360 extender setup in the living room (mainly because the video playback using Media Browser is buggy and continues to lock up our system - reinstalls tried).

The actual installation of the application worked smoothly once I found out about the port change in v4.0.1. Took me a couple of minutes to get it working, and the picture quality is what I would expect it to be. HD channels stream beautifully, same ofcourse with HD channels.

However!

I miss a few things, but I am not sure if this is a limitation in Boxee itself, or within the application.

1) I miss a "real" guide, like in the iPhone application, that can give overview. Non-existing WAF on missing overview EPG.
2) When going to the list of channels, video playback halts. It would be great if we could get a shortcut to bring up the EPG and still let the video stream do it's magic in the background.

I would like to suggest trying to mimic the dreambox TV user interface and functionality - if it's even possible, that is. That would increase the WAF and be a good step on the way to make a Boxee application that can take over the Xbox 360 Extender functionality (at a much lower cost, both first purchase and power usage).

Oh, and not to mention that Boxee itself has a problem mounting SMB shares from newer (Windows Server 2008+) systems. A manual "noserverino" mount option has to be added somehow to allow a Linux Samba machine to mount the filesystem, and I have yet to figure out how to do this with the Boxee so no input on how the D-Link version handles other video playback.

All in all - I think I'll factory reset the D-Link Boxee and return it to the store. Neither the DVBLogic application nor the video playback functions are what I expected. :-/
