Zombie streams not closing

Postby BartZorn » Wed Jan 03, 2018 9:49 am

Hi,

I have seen several occasions where I try to open a channel in Kodi, but Kodi sticks in the rotating circle until it times out, and no channel is seen.
In the mean time, DVBlink reports that the channel is tuned and streaming. When I try again in Kodi, the same thing happens, and the number of streams in DVBlink is increased by one. I have to manually stop the tuner by opening its configuration screen or by restarting the DVBlink service.

When I quit Kodi and start it again, it can tune to the channel again, but the zombie streams are not stopped.

This problem is also mentioned here: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=32506#p119117

Unfortunately, the Kodi DVBlink add-on is not supported by anyone, at least not formally. So I can only hope that somebody takes notice.

TIA,

Bart

I'm hooked into this thread. The zombie streams are well known to me. I use digital devices nettuner. It happens once in a while that, especially with channels with a bad signal, this channel hangs and is no longer cleared. Restarting the tuner will not solve the problem. I need to restart the Dvblogic server services, this deletes the zombie streams. Here I wish for better handling of dvblogic.

It is possible to monitor the signal of the channel and if this is faulty after a timeout disconnect.
Or, if a stream is no longer retrieved from the channel, then the channel is also disconnected after a timeout.

Yes, this really needs fixing I think.

With so many providers only allowing one connection, I get a dead stream, and then have to manually restart the server.

Even an option to kill a stream in Diagnostics would be good (but having the server kill the stream automatically when no data is being received would be better)

It is a known issue within DVBlogic, and they expect to solve it in the next version of the server.

And, to be completely honest, it is not the issue in DVBLink PVR addon, but rather with Kodi player, which does not close stream if there is no stream available.
We have worked it around using a timeout mechanism.
