Pi3: HD channels fine, SD bad!?

Postby docbi » Wed Nov 16, 2016 7:59 am

Hello,

I've got a dvblink server running on a Synology DS213+, one source is a TV Butler - everything's fine. :-)

Just to try and find out I took a Pi3 with openelec and installed a dvblink server. Took my TV Butler (connected over powered USB hub) on the same antenna (DVBT2) and searched for channels.

Surprisingly the HD channels work pretty fine - no jerking, good quality. The SD channels instead performe very poor. Lots of blocks, many jerks.

I would have expected that to be the other way round due to Pi performance restrictions!?

My Pi ist overcloecked (1000).

ist anything more perhaps missing? Is this the way it has to be?

Looking forward to ideas! :-)

Hi Hans, it looks that you don't have a license for MPEG-2 on Rasppberry Pi. Or do you have one? If no you can by from rpi shop

Agree - it seems that MPEG-2 codecs are required,
NETGEAR RNDU2000; Synology DS112j, DS 212j, DS213+, DS 712+; Western Digital WD ex2; Asustor AS3, RPI2 ...
PCTV 460,461e,292e; TT 4400, 4650CI;DVBSKy S960; DD octopus net; Inverto sat2ip multibox; TBS DVB-C ...

Try to play these channels at the PC - just for test.
Use the DVBlink Viewer or VLC or any other dvblink client.

Also, are we talking about LiveTV or about Recordings as well.

Well, actually this is the result when I watch Live-TV on my PC. Usually I use KODI, but I also tried VLC - the result is the same.

As far as I can see TV-videos recorded by my DVBLink Server in the DS copied to the PI are shown in a good quality,

Currently I can't try to record a TV channel on the PI, I'll try later and let you know...
