Video Transcoding?

Postby Calle1190 » Wed Apr 01, 2015 5:39 pm

Hi,

Unfortunately, the server dvblink on the Raspberry pi does not support transcoding a video.
Does anyone know if that changes soon? By an update or something?
Is there another way to use this?

Thanks, and see you soon.

The CPU on RPI is too weak for transcode the stream, especially real time, so this feature doesn't supported and i guess it will not be supported at all.

Thanks for the answer.

I use a Raspberry pi 2. His CPU should have plenty of performance, isnot it?

You can watch live TV without any problems from raspberry pi on all dvblink clients(but without transcoding ), also Rpi can be like server and player at the same time.

Yes. But the Pi and Pi 2 have H264 encoding implemented in hardware/firmware in the GPU, so the CPU wouldn't have to do an encode. Accelerated H264 (and MPEG2 with the right licence) decoding and H264 encoding can be done on the Pi / Pi 2. (The H264 decoder and encoder don't require additional licences either)

DVBLink uses ffmpeg to transcode the stream.
