DVBLink crashes - not accessible

Postby SHL » Mon Feb 08, 2016 9:57 pm

Hello,
I'm running DVBLink TVSource and Server (latest built) on a WD NAS My Cloud Mirror, latest SW.
From time to time - sometimes twice a day - it appears that I cannot access the TV server anymore, neither from any mobile device and even not from the APP configuration screen of my NAS console.
The only way to solve that issue is a complete restart of the NAS, which was never necessary before I installed the DVB Link product last Year December.

Recently I've set the Log file to extended Info, and after last crash and restart, I downloaded the log file - as attached.

Thanks for any good suggestion what is causing this annoying problem and how to get rid of it.

Is there a specific scenario of how to reproduce the issue?
Also, when the crash is occurred you should be able to restart the DVBLink server only, with the On/Off buttons at the App tab (after start the dvblink, wait a minute or two, before opening the web-interface, the WD NAS My Cloud Mirror is not so powerful in order to handle with this immediately)

Do you have any experience working with ssh?

Unfortunately I could not yet find a way to reproduce that issue. It somehow happens after using Kodi on a mobile device - possibly after or before I used the DVBLink client on the same device. But I will observe further and as soon as I get more insight I will report here.
Indeed switching off and on the APP via the NAS sometimes helped getting the application back to work. Other times it did not help and I had to restart the NAS. Since that I always did a NAS restart, but I also will go back trying the other way.

And no, I do not have any experiences with ssh - I hardly know what it is but that's it.

Thanks

Today I had a DVBLink server crash again. Still not fully clear why.
What I did before the crash was the attempt to get the DVBLink Client for Win 8 (from Ninja Factory) up and running.
After I found a post about this App, I finally noticed that the development has been stopped.
While knowing that, I gave up any further investigations for this App and de-installed it from my PC.
If that was causing the DVBLink server crash ? ...

However, I can confirm, that I was able to restart DVBLink server on my NAS by switching off and on the App (with a little bit of patience).

Let's see if not using the DVBLink Client App anymore prevents the server App from further crashes.

Thanks.

You are right the win app had not been rebuilt for last few updates of server. So, could be that some wrong requests are sent to the server, and it cause the issue.

Today I noticed another hang-up of the TV-Server App.
I do not know when the hang-up occurred, I did not stream over the last 3 days.
I only can say that a TV recording that I've programmed for Yesterday (16th) did not happen at all.
Attached the log file.
Maybe it will bring some new findings.
Thanks

Can You please explain, what You mean by that.

And thanks for Your offer with TeamViewer.
Before I make use of Your time, let me try to completely un- and re-install the DVBlink on my NAS and see if that brings a difference.

Just guessing: could it be, that the WD NAS is not providing enough power on the USB, so that the TV Butler may suffer from that from time to time?
Thanks

The Private Message on this forum. It is the little PM button next to nickname. And the private data - teamviewer ID/passwd, appropriate time for both...

Yes, it could be. On my WD EX2 i have got the same issue with the one USB port (very rarely but still it happened). You can try to change the port, connect the tuner directly to the USB, or even if you have such possibility, connect the TVButler via powered USB HUB.

Hi There,
long time ago... but a brief status update on the reported issues.
After installing the TV Butler to my WD NAS via a powered USB hub two weeks ago, I did not had any SW crashes anymore.
Before that, the DVBLink Server SW continues to crash from time to time and I even noticed several situations, were the SW did not crash but has lost the TV Butler connection. In these situations the Server SW recorded properly the programmed TV recordings, showing a blue screen with a certain error message all the time.
It seems that the power consumption of the stick is (sometimes) higher than the NAS can provide constantly.

The other reported issues with missing audio while streaming HD sources/recordings on connected clients still remains - on,
- the smart TV (non-Android platform)
- the media device of the BluRay player
- the latest Kodi version for Android
It only works fine for Kodi and VLC player on my PC and even for VLC on Android.

With all made experiences, I would call the WD My Cloud Mirror only conditional compatible with TV Butler and DVBLink and I would highly recommend to remove that NAS completely from the compatibility list.
My intention was to stream on my TV and not on my PC, which makes the whole thing quite useless for me.
Thanks
SHL
