Channel re-scan

Postby jydepotte » Thu Mar 10, 2016 8:25 pm

My cable company (YouSee Danmark) has moved a lot of TV channels around this week and therefore a complete channel re-scan is needed. I have 2 DVBLink TV Server installations (QNAP/Windows). However I have found that this is quite a task. The observations below are based on the DVBLink TV Server installation (5.5.0 12350) on my QNAP TV-470 PRO.

Observations:

Did a "Fast scan" on master tuner without going into "Manage channels" to remove the existing channels. 124 FTA (unencrypted) channels found. The scan did not remove the old non-existing channels (The correct number of FTA channels is 82).

Went into "Manage channels" on master tuner and deleted all channels. This should remove all traces of any channels in the system??? It does not. Under "Channel selection" the channels are removed ... but "Favorites", "Channel merge", "Channel settings" and "EPG Sources" still have the channels listed.

Doing a fast re-scan of the channels on the master tuner now detects the correct number of FTA channels. However the slave tuners are not updated with the new channels. YouSee have renamed some channels so therefore "Channel merge" does not group the channels correctly anymore. To update the slave tuners first you have to delete all of them and then re-add them to the master tuner.

"Channel selection" ... "Selected channels" now has some channels selected again ... I had expected "Selected Channels" to be empty after deleting the old channels and a re-scan.

What is the correct way to do a complete channel re-scan... this really needs to be easier? I would prefer just doing a fast re-scan and this would remove any non-existing channels and add new/moved channels. The new channel scan should automatically synchronize to the slave tuners.

I'm also interested in an answer of this. In my mind, this is a major weakness in DVBLink and I don't understand why not more effort is spent to enhance admin of channels.

Above problem could maybe be solved if Dvblink after a tuner scan compared missing channels with new and suggested a re-map of them. Maybe not easy to build the GUI for it but something needs to be done.

Has the channel management been improved version 6.0.0?

Why not, could you shed some light on the reasons behind this? It was the same with version 5.x.

This task is in todo list, but as it turned out is it not so easy to implement. There a lot of dependences and threads, which may cause an issues in other modules.
