DVBLink and QTS4.2 on TS-x79, TS-x80, TS-x70, TS-x89 models

DVBLink TV Server for QNAP NAS is discussed here!

DVBLink and QTS4.2 on TS-x79, TS-x80, TS-x70, TS-x89 models

Due to the kernel changes in QTS4.2 for TS-x79, TS-x80, TS-x70, TS-x89 QNAP models, DVBLink currently does not support legacy USB tuners on these products.

The only option to restore correct DVBLInk operations is to downgrade QTS to version 4.1.4.

We are in touch with QNAP and persuading to make the required kernel modifications. If it will be possible and how it will take is not known at the moment.

Users of all other QNAP NAS models and users with network tuners and DVBLink TVButler tuner are not affected by the kernel change issue and can continue using DVBLink with QTS 4.2.

Hi Oberon,

You mention "legacy USB tuners". Does that mean that there're models of tuners which will work for my NAS at this level? Which tuners do I need to use for DVB-T reception, and can I still get a dual-tuner on USB from any of them? Will using such non-legacy tuners mean that I'll have fewer compatibility issues each time I upgrade QTS or DVBLink server/TV Source?

Thanks,

All USB tuners except for TVButler are legacy tuners. TVButler is immune to kernel changes.

If I use a Silicon HomeRun HDHR4-2DT(AU) network tuner, will that free me from the kernel driver dependency? Is that a recommended option?

Also, just to be clear, is TVButler a single DVB-T tuner per USB device?

Your tuner is a network tuner (not USB), so it will work fine with QTS4.2 and DVBLink.

Thanks Oberon. It sounds like I should move away from legacy USB tuners to improve my resiliency to patches, and by the sounds of it, with the number of tuners I'm aiming to have, it might better suit my architecture to get network tuners instead of USB tuners. Thank you for your explanation.

Hi
Since some time now my PCTV 292e stick on my QNAP NAS 469pro (QTS 4.2.0) does not work anymore.
I have reinstalled DVBserver but when I click it, the app cannot be found. Do I also have to wait for a fix of the QTS?
Or could there be something else I am doing wrong.

thanks,

FRed

Hi,

Here we are, what is it 9 months now and still this is a problem.

The topic hasn't even been updated with the other QNAP NAS models that don't work.

What exactly is it you need to fix this?
Or are you not going to support new QNAP NAS devices that run a newer kernel?

It isn't the kernel configuration for the kernel that's used that is easily obtained.
So what is it?

Hello DVBLogic,
i find it very pity that apparently does nothing here.
This is no solution "The only option to restore correct DVBLInk operations is to downgrade QTS to version 4.1.4." ,I have to forgo bug fixes and new features of QNAP, so that I can record my TV program?
If there is no solution, why say that none?
Apparently, updates of DVBLink version (6.0.0) and QNAP (4.2.1) bring no improvements.
Please tell something what is possible for the future.
Greetings

Yes, it is a problem, in particular it's a problem that the DVBLogic folk either do not understand or haven't bothered to look at seriously.

It doesn't, unless you fix it yourself.

I spent an afternoon on it to try and understand the problem and while it isn't too hard to partly fix, it may be more difficult to get to a point where it would be suitable for a production release.
I'll need to spend a few more days on it to work that out.

In any case I was able to get it working for my dual tuner for the moment so now I need to decide if I want to pay for DVBLink to run it on my unsupported NAS model with unsupported kernel modules ......

Fact is one big advantage of paying for DVBLink over TVHeadend is that I didn't have to tweek the package as I did for TVHeadend (doesn't support dual tuners), but now ......

Come on DVBLogic, answer my question, there may be something you are missing.
