QNAP TS-251 supported ?

QNAP TS-251 supported ?

Postby Mirage-1 » Mon Jul 21, 2014 12:03 pm

Hi,
I have two questions quick questions:

1)I m currently evaluating to upgrade my NAS and found the TS-251 very interesting.
Checking the compatibility info on the DVBLogic page I realized TS-251 it is not listed. TS251 has a Celeron (Intel® Celeron® 2.41GHz dual-core) processor.
Can you let me know if DVBLogic would run and be supported too or if that would become an issue.

2) I currently have a Synology. Does the change from Syn to QNAP has some licensing impact for DVBLogic ? Do I need to relicense ? or can i reuse the existing ones

Thanks for feedback
M

No, this NAS is not supported (yet). It has x86 software architecture as opposed to the supported x86_64.
We do have plans to support it, but it will be closer to september time frame.

As for license - you would need to buy a new one in this case. Here is the license transfer policy:

These new Celeron-based NAS look interesting, but I'd be curious to know if this processor would be powerful enough to transcode HD stuff...?

SD - definitely yes, HD - probably, but not all channels, definitely not 1080p.

We are working on it. Tentative release date - in 3-4 weeks as a part of the new DVBLink version.

Have everyone a date for the next DVBLink version? because I have a Qnap TS253 and DVBLink TVSource doesn't work with the USB 3.0 ports on the QNAP-TS253.

QNAP 251/253 use the same software architecture.
As for DVBLink support for them - it is (largely) delayed. It appeared that TS-x51/53 kernel is not compatible with the DVBLink tuner drivers and QNAP would need to adjust kernel configuration before we can build the drivers.

Uuuh !

I actually bought the 251 now because the feedback was it will be supported in a view weeks :x
So it was ok for me to wait 3-4 week (which are over right now)and re-license , but what does "it is (largely) delayed" mean in duration ?

Some rough time estimation would be helpful to set expectation.

Thanks a lot

"Largely delayed" means that the solution does not depend on us anymore. It is in the hands of QNAP to make the requested kernel changes.
I suggest that you also contact their support to find out about the status.

Oberon is this needed to make it done for TS-x51/x53 to work:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/qosgpl/files/QNAP%20NAS%20GPL%20Source/

as it seems this is GPL source for QTS 4.1.1/20141003

I hope i am not writing nonsense :D

Unfortunately this is not enough. We have tried this kernel and it still has to be modified. We are in touch with QNAP and they are looking into the issue. So let's hope for the better.

I reached out to the QNAP Support but did not got a precise answer if and when they will update their Kernel to support the dvblogic driver.
Hope they will change that soon otherwise the Qnap Nas and all the rest of the hardware i bought recently for dvblogic was a bad investment.

In addition i m actually in serious trouble as my wife got used to use Dvblogic and now pushing me to get it fix it asap

so all, please mail the qnap support that they fix this soon.
cheers

Ok, i feel like moving in circles,...

i finally got following feedback from QNAP Support:
"Sehr geehrter Kunde,
Viel Erfolg!"

short in English: DVBLogic is build from a third party supplier and QNAP has no influence to it. therefore please reach out to to DVBLogic,... Good luck !
Wow,..

Oberon let me know if you need TicketNr and/or Contact details, but i really would appreciate if this issue could be resolved soon.
Thanks a lot.

We have received last week a message from qnap that they are still working on firmware change. I will let you know when we receive the updated kernel.
