Has There Been a Background Change to the Way DVBLink Works?

Postby paul608085 » Wed Mar 07, 2018 9:35 am

As per the title: Has There Been a Background Change to the Way DVBLink Works? Specifically, with IP Tuners?

I have a Sat-IP tuner box set up on my my ReadyNAS214 running DVBLink Server 6.0.0 v14499 and TV Source v15752. TV viewing is almost entirely on a couple of Samsung Smart TV's, but I have never had much success in getting the DVBLink Samsung app to work - so for at least the last couple of years I made up a workaround: I use an app on the Samsung's called Smart-IPTV and build a m3u playlist that is uploaded to both TV's. To do this, I would open DVBLink's Configuration page on the PC and then go to Channels > Channel Selection and click on the little Play button next to each channel under Available Channels. The selected channel then opens in VLC Player. In VLC, go to Tools > Media Information > General, and in Title there would be an IP address that could be copied to add to the playlist file. Repeat for each required channel. It was a bit laborious to start with and has to be updated manually when a channel changes its multiplex or other transmission parameters, but for ease of family use when viewing it works really well, (albeit a little slow).

The problem I now have is that the information that I get from DVBLink using this method has changed. Previously each channel would be unique, for example BBC News HD was:
http://192.168.1.64:8101/dvblink/direct?client=6979xxxxxxxxxxfe4a7cfbbc16446f1c&channel=16100000 (I have X out some of the digits). For each satellite channel, most of the address would be the same but the last bit, "channel=" would change.
However, using this method now gives http://192.168.1.64:8101/dvblink/http_stream_1 for every satellite channel. I can still tune to each channel individually using this method, but the information that I get back from VLC is always exactly the same so I can no longer update the Samsung playlist.

I believe that this is a change in DVBLink rather than VLC because I have also tried Xplayer with the same results, (I use Linux Mint on the PC).

Can anyone please advise if something has been changed in DVBLink and if so, is it possible to get this information again? Alternatively, is there another method for me to get the information that I need?

TIA

Paul

The URL for getting a m3u playlist from your DVBLink server directly is:

Code: Select all
http://192.168.1.64:8100/mobile/?command=get_playlist_m3u

This should get you the the all the channels from your DVBLink setup, just like the example you posted:
Code: Select all
#EXTM3U
....
#EXTINF:-1,xxxx - BBC News HD
http://192.168.1.64:8101/dvblink/direct?client=6979xxxxxxxxxxfe4a7cfbbc16446f1c&channel=16100000
...
etc

If Kodi is available for your Samsung smart TV, I would advise to use the DVBLink PVR addon in Kodi, if you have problems with the DVBLink app on your smart tv.

Thanks, that's perfect! :D

Is this documented somewhere, I did try looking first before asking!

For anyone else who may be interested, to get this info in a much more easily read format:

Linux: open Terminal and type xed http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:8100/mobile/?comman ... aylist_m3u - replacing xed with your favourite text editor if appropriate.

Windows 10: Using Wordpad, (not Notepad), click File > Open and then insert http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:8100/mobile/?command=get_playlist_m3u into the Filename box.

In both cases replace xxx.xxx.x.xx with the IP address of your DVBLink server.

Both the Smart TV's run Samsung's own OS, (Tivizen?), so as far as I am aware Kodi is not available for it. I do use Kodi on external Android boxes on both TV's when I am viewing, but this seems to be too complicated for the rest of my family - which is strange as they don't seem to have a problem with using the Pay-TV box

It's documented in the DVBLink Wiki:
https://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/How ... s_m3u_file

For easy editing of your m3u, I advise Notepad++
DVBLink server 6.0.0 build14499, DVBLink TVSource 6.0.0 build14061, DVBLink for IPTV build 13107
Kodi 18.0-ALPHA1 Git:20180125-7379a75, Win10 Pro x64 1709 build16299.125

Thanks, I think that I was searching for "playlist" rather than "m3u".
