Tuning fails

Postby kraus13 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:39 pm

Hello,

I'm a newbe to the forum. I have a Netgear NAS RN10200 with firmware 6.1.5 and a TBS 5980 CI SAT-card. I have installed DVBLink Server 4.6.0 Build 9332, DVBLink EPG Loader for EpgData.com Version 4.6.0 Build 9212 and DVBLink TV-Source 4.6.0 Build 9212. I have a SAT-unicable installation in my house.

When I configure everything and I do a scan, I sometimes suceed in finding all TV programs up to 11700 MHz, but above that there I have only "tuning failures". I have selected "LNB1 Diseqc1.1" for Diseqc and the unicable settings are "Slot 3, Position A, 1484 MHz", as this is the band assigned to the SAT antenna wall outled.

After one scan I'm not able to find any TV programs anymore, even if I reboot my NAS. What is wrong with my installation? Can anybody give me advice?

Meanwhile I drilled down the problem and think that it is related to a heating problem of the TBS 5980 CI USB-TV contoller. When I switch off the USB controller and let it cool down, I can start a new scan and find channels up to a certain time, when it starts failing tuning again.

The difficulty with the 11,700 MHz boarder described in my previous post may result from choosing the wrong Diseqc setting. I might have to choose "Unicable: Slot 3, Freq 1484, PosA" instead of "LNB1 Diseqc1.1".

But before I can give further details on my problems, I will have to contact TBS for getting a new USB controller.

Hi,

I have returned my TBS 5980CI USB device to TBS a week ago. I'm still waiting for a repair or an exchange. As I'm out over the weekend, the 20 day test time for DVBLink TV-Source is running out. Is there a chance to get an extension of the 20 days so that I have the possibility to test TV-Source as soon as I have a working TBS 5980CI device in my hands again?

Thanks for your help!

Many thanks for providing me a new test period after I have gotten back my TBS 5980CI device.

I tested the TBS device with my Windows PC. It works fine with DVBViewer there attached to a unicable installation.

Attaching it to the Netgear NAS I'm struggling with the unicable configuration. I have the following infrastructure in place:
    Netgear NAS with Firmware 6.1.6
    DVBLink 4.6.0 Build 9212
Jultec JPS0904-3T with 4 unicable strings each with 3 CSS frequencies (1280, 1382 and 1484 MHz)
The TBS 5980CI device is attached to a unicable outlet with CSS frequency 1484.

I tested all possible configurations in DVBLink TVSource for unicable: Slots 0 to 7 and Postion A and B always with CSS frequency 1484. As "Diseqc" I always chose "Unicable: Slot n, Freq 1484, PosA (or B)". But I do not get any SAT signal. What I'm doing wrong here?

By the way: When I set "Diseqc" to "LNB1 Diseqc1.1" I find all sources on the Astra 19.2 transponders below 11,700 MHz. Above 11,700 MHz naerly no sources are found.

Please, can anybody help me!

Set log level to info, restart dvblink package, reproduce the issue and attach the log files.
It might be that linux drivers of 5980 are not capable of generating the required unicable command sequence. We will check it here as well, but if it is true - there is not much that we can do.

Hi Oberon, attached you find the requested log files.

By the way, if I neglect any unicable settings and chose instead e.g. "LNB2 Diseqc1.1", scanning finds about 1170 programs. And I can watch those! This looks all very strange.

Meanwhile I installed the new build 9733 for DVBLink Server and then DVBLink TVSource. With this new build the scanning process seems to work fine. All transponders (even those above 11,700 MHz) are found, if I use unicable settings. Unfortunately there is no epg data available and if I try to watch a program, I only get an error message that the TV source is missing. When checking the the related transponder, the tuning result is fine.

The way I installed the new build was:
1. de-install DVBLink Server and by that also DVBLink TVSource and EpgData.com
2. install DVBLink Server build 9733
3. install DVBLink TVSource build 9733
4. install EpgData.com Version 4.6.0 Build 9212

Any idea, what is wrong?

Set log level to info, restart DVBLink server, reproduce the issue and attach new zipped log files here.

It seems that linux drivers of 5980 are not capable of sending correct unicable command sequence. I am afraid there is nothing we can do here at the moment.

Any idea, how I can convince TBS of that? Is there no chance that you get into contact with TBS on the subject? TBS states on the web that the 5980CI is unicable capable.

We have been testing some more here. The 5980 scan works fine with unicable. The channels are playable as well.
What is the CAM that you use? Is it on the tested CAM list of 5980 tuner? Can you play FTA channels?

So far I don't use any CAM. I just want to view FTA channels, what is not working so far.

Any idea, what might be the reason that it does not work here?

By the way, what wonders me is that I do not get any EPG-Data for any of my channels. As far as I understood the DVBLink concept, the EPG information is provided by EpgData.com via internet and not via the satellite stream. If that is right, at least the EPG data shall be there, even if the TBS Linux driver will not work correct.
