DVBLink TV Server for Synology NAS is discussed here!

migration of recorded tv (ts files) to new NAS

Postby mrhaefele » Sun Apr 27, 2014 2:10 am

Hi,

I am currently migrating from my old Synology DS411j to a Synology DS214+. TV Source is running again (trial license). Next step would be to move my recorded tv movies from the Synology DS411j (Folder ..DVBLink\RecordedTV) to the DS214+.

I copied the ts files manually but they do not show up in my TV. The folder shows empty in TV but looking with my PC and the Windows Explorer I can see the ts files.

What is needed to get the ts files visible via UPNP (e.g. TV device)

Thanks for a short hint.

Best Regards Udo

If you still have your old DVBLInk installation working - this is the way to do it:
- stop dvblink server package on the old NAS
- stop dvblink server package on the new NAS
- copy the complete content of the DVBLink share from your old NAS to the DVBLink share on a new NAS (RecordedTV, database folders are the most important). If prompted - overwrite files in the destination directory.
- start DVBLink server on the new NAS. Now all recordings from the old NAS should be visible on the new one.

I also intend to make a migration from my old NAS to my new NAS. What are the next steps regarding DVBLogic?
Just install DVBLogic on the new NAS and then like Oberon as described above, stop the server on both NAS, then copy the entire DVBLink folder to the new NAS and then start DVBLink again on the new NAS?

That's it?

There is no official way fro this. But at the info@dvblogic.com may write you some workarounds.

Here is the answer of dvblogic:

The licenses can only be moved between the systems of the same manufacturer.
How to transfer DVBLink product licenses to another system -> http://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_transfer_DVBLink_product_licenses_to_another_system

Hence if it is eligible, Please set up a new machine, install DVBLink products and activate a trial mode on it. When it all works, write an e-mail to us and we will transfer your old license to a new machine.
Don’t forget to uninstall DVBLink products on the old machine and indicate a new NAS model!

As for recordings:
There is no an official way for moving recordings from one machine to another.
Anyway, There are a few important things you should know if you want to try.
- all entries about your recordings are in the DVBLink/database/dlrecorder.db
- Make a DVBLink settings backup file.
How to perform backup and restore -> http://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_perform_backup_and_restore
- Stop dvblink server and make a backup of this file before migration.
- At the new NAS check if the "Background check for deleted recordings" -> http://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_change_DVBLink_Server_settings:_Recorder at the Settings-> Recorder is Unchecked.

#1 Install the DVBLink server and all need packages on the new NAS
#2 Stop server - and replace the dlrecorder db file with the file from the old NAS
#3 Copy all recordings to the path indicated at the Settings-> Recorder -> Recording path (Should be the same path as was on the old NAS)
#4 start the DVBLink server.
All recordings should be restored in a 15-20 minutes

Then you may try to make a restore of the backup file.
But better to configure the sources from the scratch

Also you may try this way described on the forum:
