EPG doesn't show correctly characters with caron e.g. Czech

Postby amerotke » Mon Jan 19, 2015 10:51 pm

KODI EPG doesn't correctly display characters with caron. Instead it displays the base character followed by a "box" character. See marked characters in the attached picture.
The issue has been reported to the KODI team http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/15710#comment:3 and it has been closed with the comment that this is a bug in PVR Addon, which doesn't correctly converts ISO 6937 to UTF-8 Latin Extended A.

I used the SQLLite browser tool for manual rewriting data in KODI's epg database and this helped to "fix" the issue. That means that really data written by PVR Addon are not in correct format for displaying in KODI.

Tested with KODI Addon version 1.9.13 for Kodi 14.x Helix. DVBLink server 5.1.0 build 10856

Does the DVBLink web interface show these symbols correctly?

Characters are correctly displayed in MCE, in web browser as well as on mobile and in other types of Media applications. They are corrupted only in KODI.

I tried it, but no success. I tried more character sets at Kodi, last Central Europe, but no success. I read about converting to utf8?

I use Kodi 16 now, at Kodi 15 it was similar, with DVBLink 5.5.0. On your page is only client for Kodi 14.
Please add and for repaire your client for Kodi 16.

As i understand at the dvblink web-client in the Guide all data displays correctly, Aren't i?
And in the kodi at TV -> Guide even after "clear data" you still have issues with characters.
I do not sure if it's help, but you can try to play with options at
Settings -> Appearence -> International -> Character set: ...

As I stated above, I have no problem (now using Kodi 15.2) with czech characters in EPG. (Source is UPC DVB-C)

DVBLink server settings - ISO 6937
and also check under advanced settings - sources - configure - edit advanced settings - EPG scan tab: see attached picture

no other settings in Kodi changed afaik

For me the error persist.
I checked settings at EPG configuration and my language is set correct to czech.
I run DVBLink 5.5.0 on windows 10 czech collation, together with Kodi, firts time 15.2, now 16 beta 2, and its the same.
I tried more options on Kodi Settings -> Appearence -> International -> Character set: ..., but no success.
My source is Skylink satellite.
