Channels off air / no data available

Postby dduk » Tue Jan 03, 2012 7:04 pm

I have two channels, BBC Three and BBC Four that are only on the air from 1900hrs. Using the data from MC Guide Services, the guide used to report these as 'Channel Off Air'. However when using the DigiGuide data, they are shown as 'No Data Available' until 1900hrs.

Initially I thought it was a problem with the DigiGuide data, however in their windows app, the grid says that programmes don't start until 1900hrs.

Can this be corrected within the plug in so that the channel off air data is shown correctly?

Kind regards,
dduk

Digiguide does not provide any info about this period of time. So we cannot distinguish whether it is "no data available" or "channel off air".

Thanks for the confirmation, Oberon. What would be the best way to get this sorted? Obviously without the data, there's nothing you can do, but I'd like to be able to raise the issue with the good people at DigiGuide. If their own software knows when a channel is off air, they must know about it some way.

Brilliant, thanks again. If you feel it would help to nudge the issue along, I'll happily log another ticket so they know it's more than just one user affected.

Wow, such a strong, decisive response. I'm glad I was sat down when I read that...

Thanks again for looking into it, Marty. Fingers crossed.

Hi Marty,

To be honest, the problem is not with our data missing information; there is no data to display and our policy is not to fill the data with unnecessary 'programming' when it is not a programme as the solution should be down to the product using the data as to what to do in these situations ... Digiguide for Windows, Digiguide.tv Premium, myDigiguide.com all use the same data and they can consistently create the 'gap fillers' themselves so they can perform their own actions or display it in their own specific way.

I have asked the developers to contact DVBLogic to show them how this can be done quickly and easily.

Best regards,
Dan Petitt (Support Team)

This sounds fair to me, Surely it would be quite easy for DVBLink to fill in the blanks if there is a 'gap' in the guide data with 'Programming Returns At **:** time' ?

Just curious - what the difference does it make if guide says "channel is off air" or "no guide data is available"?

Oberon, to be honest mate, I'm used to what channels are off-air at what time now and I'm used to seeing 'No Data Available' however, if you are not aware of this you could find yourself scrolling through the guide to see if theres any data for that channel, thinking that it hasnt been populated at all.
It would just be a nice feature for me now, but for others it could be reassurance that all the guide data is present and working correctly.

Agreed.

Media centre shows the channel as a No Data Available block until the programmes start again. Using MC Guide services, it says something like Channel Off Air.

From my point of view, I prefer the channel off air message as it doesn't make me instantly think that the wheels have fallen off the guide collector.

With MS losing all UK guide data for 2013, I've moved back to the DigiGuide add-in for the guide data. Unfortunately I've noticed that this issue is still with us. Was there any noise from DigiGuide that might suggest a fix in the future (it's nearly been a year!)?
