Not possible to use direct http streaming (with VLC)

Postby x-fire » Mon Jan 23, 2012 11:17 am

Hi,

I'm trying to write a client that uses your DVBLink Remote API, but having no luck so far to get it working, I was simply trying to watch a direct http stream in the format
Code: Select all
http://<server ip>:<server port>/dvblink/direct?client=<client_id>&channel=<channel_id>

with VLC. VLC asks me then for a username/password (Http-authentication), but when I provide these (as configured under DVBLink "Settings") VLC does not show anything and asks again and again for username/password... I tried to leave usern./pw in DVBLink-settings empty as it was implemented in a later DVBLink Version 3, but it seems in v4 it ist just reset to default user/pw. Would it be possible to implement that again in v4 that one can leave username/password empty?

I'm using Win7 32bit, DVBLink TVSource & Connect Server 4.1.0 and VLC 1.1.11 - watching TV with WMC or via channel selection (play link behind a channel which starts VLC) works fine.

Thanks for any info/help.

you need to specify base streaming port + 1 as a server_port - e.g. by default 8081
Server: Synology DS212j, TBS5980CI (Dutch CanalDigitaal), TeVii s660 unicable Astra 28.2E, DVBLink TVSource 4.6.0, all DVBLink EPG Loaders
Clients: AsRock ION 330 Win7 MediaCenter, Samsung DLNA TV, IPad, Samsung Galaxy S, Nexus 7

Thanks for the fast feedback. Seems if its not the port defined in DVBLink Configuration ("Streaming port") you have to use, it would be nice if you update your wiki/documentation pages to reflect this ("How to write my own DVBLink client").

However, in my case using port 8081 instead of 8080 simply does nothing, VLC does not ask for username/password and seems to be waiting for the stream but nothing happens... Verifying that streaming over DVBLink Connect Server works, I opened the "DVBLink Client - Channels and guide" page in the browser and tried watching a channel there - but here also, a window opens but nothing happens - no stream visible. So it seems that the Connect Server is not able to stream a channel? Whats the important log for the Connect Server, "dvblink_webserver.log" ?

Thanks for your help!

A small update on this: opening the Web streaming interface ("DVBLink Client - Channels and guide") in Internet Explorer does help to watch the channels (seems to be using WMP then), but no luck in Firefox. No issue for me, but beeing able to preview in VLC with the mentioned channel-link would be nice to debug development of a client...

See here: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=14586&p=74611#p74611

This works with VLC as I was testing to try and get the stream going. You need to specify a hastag generated by DVBLink as the "Client=" within the link. After I did this was able to stream through VLC ;)

EDIT: Just realized this post is a year old with no resolution!!
Hopefully this will help others that are still having this issue, and help the DVBLogic team to solve it....

Accidentally we have fixed couple of days ago a bug in the server that might have caused the behavior that you have seen and a workaround that you have proposed.

Has that fix (whatever it was) been deployed? I just downloaded DVBlink 4.5.2 yesterday to try it out to see if I could get it to work with MediaPortal 1.3.0beta and my Anysee E7 T2C.

So I'm trying to get MediaPortal to work with DVBlink, but have so far been unsuccessful. During my investigations I found this thread. After trying with VLC I found that I have no trouble using a URL such as http://127.0.0.1:8081/dvblink/direct?cl ... l=10770000 (i.e., with anything as client, not necessarily the original hash).

However, after streaming for a while, VLC aborts the stream. For MPEG-2 streams I can stream for a few minutes, up to maybe half an hour. For H.264 stream it aborts almost immediately. I do not know if this is due to VLC or DVBlink, but I hope it is not the latter as that would render the whole setup useless.

No, the fix has not been deployed yet. It only has influence on m3u streaming and Boxee functionality. So no influence on direct streaming as such.
As for your problem with aborted stream - set log level to info, reproduce the issue and attach the zipped log files here.
