Server vs Connect! Server

Postby bekax » Sat May 16, 2015 8:19 pm

Hello everyone.

For a while I've been thinking about getting DVBlink and stream Live to a few TVs and laptops I have at home.
My idea was to buy a Vu+Duo2 and stream at least 2 different channels to any client I would like (most important being TVs). Maybe add a USB for Terrestrial too.

So I still did not get what is the exact difference between DVBLink Server and DVBLink Connect! Server.

Please, could someone elucidate me =)

Thanks!

DVBLink Server on Windows platform requires DVBLink Connect! Server installation for DVBLink clients to work.
So, without this one you can watch TV only on your PC

Ah, I got it.

What about for the other platforms ?
Can I get several streams from several tunners working in multi clients only with DVBLink Server for Linux for example?

Yes, you can, because in all other platforms connect server is included in dvblink server.

Ah, that's great! Thanks a lot for the info!

I wrote this in another topic, but maybe you could enlighten me,

- Is it possible to watch more than 1 channel per tuner from the Dreambox (even if they are from same verticality) ?
- Limit is 8 users per tuner right?
- Can I still watch directly from the Dreambox HDMI while using DVBLink at the same time?

Thanks!

1. You can watch up to 8 channels simultaneously, if this channels are from the same transponder.
2. Limit is 8 streams for live tv and 16 for recordings (it's total limit for dvblink, no metter how much tuners do you use - one, two, five ... )
3. As i know - No, you cann't , because of technical posibilities.

I am pretty inclined to buy a Vu+duo2 and use it to stream 2xDVB-S2 and 1xDVB-T to the whole house.

Will for example solutions as "RemoteStreamConverter" or "TunerServer" be unavailable after installing DVBLink?

I would still like to watch on some TVs (some analog ones and some digital) and was thinking what client to put on them and thought about doing the "partner" thing with a 2nd cheaper box. Would this work? Is there a better option?
Also I want to get rid of the modulators that I have and get a digital signal on the TV or as close as possible =) (Quality wins)

Update: I've been reading about this a lot and I think it is one of the best solutions so far.

I'm just still curious if after installing DVBLink on Vu+duo2 I will loose the "Remote Stream Converter" option ?
It would be a perfect solution for my house if I could use these two at the same time!

I'm sorry to say, but i have no experience with dreambox. What i can say with high probability , that you cann't watch Live TV with Dreambox and DVBLink + Dreambox simultaneously

Which clients would you advise to use?

On PCs I will use VLC and WMC. Will also use iOS client.
My question is for TVs, which are the best options ? and the cheapest ?
Would a Dreambox work as a client with some kind of plugin ?

Thanks in advance!

If TV set is supported DLNA , you do not need any additional hardware (DVBlink server includes DLNA server, so you can use your TV as DLNA client). If not, i think the cheapest variant is Raspberry Pi 2 with Openelec OS and DVBLink PVR Addon for Kodi.
