"New episodes only" option

Postby rbueeler » Fri Jan 23, 2015 8:38 pm

Where can I find the new option from latest DVBlink build?

Added: "New episodes only" option uses for filtering the episodes, which have been recorded previously and deleted by user after watching them

It works automatically when "New episodes only" is turned on - you can turn it on on the Schedules page.
However, it will start working only for new/deleted recordings. What you have deleted before that is gone and its history - also.

This option is set per schedule and is a combobox on each schedule.

Sorry to say, but which one of the 3 combo boxes is it? They don't seem to be new to me.

They are not new.
The new implementation also takes into account recorded and then deleted episodes.

I see. thank you. :) So the option "only new programs" is enhanced.
Is it possible to see/edit what recorded episodes are in the DB?
How is the repeat flag considered? (priority wise)

Repeat flag from EPG is ignored. Because it does not make any sense in the context of any particular schedule - for some people this program is new and for the others - already seen. So only new episodes now are those that have never been recorded in the context of a particular schedule.

What about programs that have no episode numbers in EPG? I get the EPG data from DVBlink TV adviser and sometimes a program is recorded only once (even it is broadcasted weekly) while another one is recorded each week, when the option "only new programs "is set. Can you please explain exactly the rules that are applied for the "only new programs " option? Thanks a lot!

if episode/season number is present - then they are used, if not - episode name. if both are not present - only new programs rule is not applied.

I got it, thank you. :D

Would it be possible to add a unique IDs for all programs in the EPG data? Then the"only new programs "option could also be used for programs with no episode ID or episode name.

Could I ask for some clarification of what DVBlink is doing when you select the recording option "new?"
Generally speaking in most DVRs including WMC, when you select "new" only new episodes are recorded. Whether the end user has viewed or previously recorded the program, doesn't somehow make a repeated episode new. An episode shown 1 week, 1 month or a years after its original broadcast date is by definition is a repeat (old). Is there a way for DVBlink to specify that only "new" episodes are recorded? Also, original episode air date/repeat episodes are not specified in the DVBlink EPG, which I've been told is included in the EPG data provided by PercData. If the original episode air date was incorporated into DVBlink EPG, would this the allow DVBlink to determine whether to record a new episode or ignore it as a repeat?
Thank you.

Original air date as well as "repeat" flag in the epg program information is irrelevant for setting up the recording.
It is purely informational, saying that at certain point in time in the past it was shown on some channel.
For a regular human being, who wants that the same programs do not get recorded several times, it is of no use. Also for us.

As such DVBLink ignores these flags and uses its own mechanism for filtering duplicate recordings (which we believe works better than simply relying on the repeat flag). The details of the algorithm are described in this topic below.
