Cheapest way to TV?

Postby Hoox » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:06 pm

I'm looking to get a tv in my bedroom, and want to get the cheapest and "cleanest" way to get a dvbclient there.
The machine is to be used only for dvblink streaming.
Do I need a machine running full WMC or is there another way? It needs to be fairly stable.

The cheapest might be to get Raspberry Pi running XBMC with a DVBLink addin from here:
viewtopic.php?f=61&t=18242
(especially providing that they support now mpeg-2 decoding as well).

Wow, this is great!
Just ordered a Raspberry Pi to try it out. I was'nt aware that dvblink was able to run on it :)

Thanks!

Any TV with LAN port is supported via UPnP.
Raspberry Pi request extra hardware as remote control, power, case, hdmi cable
and price go to price of cheap player with WiFi witch come with this stuff included
will prefer Xtreamer or WD TV Live working by UPnP

both have public API only some one need to write applicatioon to use EPG
Terratec Cinergy S2 USB HD rev.1
clients ubuntu 12.04 + XBMC PVR by Pulse-Eight and Xtreamer MK1 both via WiFi

WD TV Live also seems like a nice solution.
Do you know how it perform as UPnP client for dvblink? Channel change time?

depend on few things
1. speed of connection
2. bitrate of program and codec used
3 psychical human time to wait ;)

in my case hd 1080p x264 channels 6-8 megabit over wifi 802.11N standard take 2-5sec
because player need some buffer of stream before start to show picture on screen

p.s.
it will be very good some one to write application for Xtreamer or WD live

2-5 seconds seems very acceptable to me. Most of my streams are less that 1080p x264, so should work alright here.
I may have to order a WD TV Live too, to check it out :)

And yes, I agree. Someone please write an application for WD TV ;)
