Windows 8 Release Preview

Postby mpavlis » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:24 pm

Any information about W8RP? Looks stable, MCE is still included (without any change).
So my question is simple and related to DVBLink - is it save to run DVBLink products on this OS? Does anyone tried it?

Yes it works but you have to manually register the MCE "front end" and "back end" extras (add-ins) because the old (.NET CLR2) reg_mce_addin.exe is hard-coded into the setup, which won't work on Windows 8 Media Center. I guess because Microsoft already re-compiled it with the latest .NET Framework CLR 4 and the optional CLR 2 (Framework 3.5) is not installed by default. But it could also just be changes Microsoft made to how extensions are registered, or a 64bit issue. No time to waste on that. But what's sure is that the system supplied MCE registration tool does work, so...

Copy these scripts to the DVBLink directory then "run as administrator" to correctly register or deregister (if you want to uninstall) the add-ins.

Code: Select all
%windir%\ehome\registermceapp.exe /allusers "%~dp0dvblink_backend.xml"
if %errorlevel% neq 0 pause
%windir%\ehome\registermceapp.exe /allusers "%~dp0dvblink_frontend.xml"
if %errorlevel% neq 0 pause

Code: Select all
%windir%\ehome\registermceapp.exe /allusers "%~dp0dvblink_backend.xml" /u
if %errorlevel% neq 0 pause
%windir%\ehome\registermceapp.exe /allusers "%~dp0dvblink_frontend.xml" /u
if %errorlevel% neq 0 pause

The sign of success is a DVB Link Media Library in the main menu of Media Center (frontend add-in) and working/updated EPG and channels (backend add-in).
