OSX DVBlink Server Auto start...

Postby solomalee » Fri Oct 27, 2017 1:41 pm

Hi,

I'm running my Mac Mini "Headless" as a dedicated server for DVBlink. Can you tell me exactly how I can ensure DVBlink server can be made to start automatically at startup of the Mac Mini server.

Currently after a reboot, when I try to connect to DVBlink from another client (e.g. iPad), the server is not available until after I have manually run the DVBlink app from the Applications folder.

I've tried various methods of starting DVBlink at login, but nothing seems to work (Mostly it seems to want to start DVBlink Player - and there is no server running :-(

Thanks in advance

The installer should create a launch daemon: /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.dvblogic.dvblink.server.plist
which does what you are asking for.

Thanks for the hint.

My experience is that nothing is running until I manually log on.

I tried auto log on and that didn't fix it.

I tried to make the DVBlink automatically run at sign on and it couldn't even see it's own local server.

The only way it works is if I manually sign on and that's pretty dumb with a headless machine that's supposed to run 24x7 and restart itself after a power failure.

How do I auto log on and ensure that "Demon" is running ;-) [windows guy here]

ssh to your headless mac mini.
Become root:
sudo su
Change to your dvblink Directory:
cd /Applications/DVBLink.app/Contents/dvblink/
Check if you have the file com.dvblogic.dvblink.server.plist
ls
If you have it you can copy it to the "Autostart" directory:
cp com.dvblogic.dvblink.server.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons/

Reboot, now dvblink server should have started.

If this doesnt work you can do a fresh install of dvblink server.
This should put the Launch Daemon in place.

Hi,

Thanks for the exceptionally clear instructions - really helpful :D

I checked the presence of the plist file and it was already there. I dug a bit deeper and found that after a restart before any account signs on, the server isn't available. After I log on, the server is available.

I now enabled the Autologon and it seems like the server now runs once an account is logged in. Not sure what fixed it - maybe deleting the server fully and reconfiguring...who knows.

Thanks anyway for you help!

...several days in and it really is staying up and available...

Just had to do one more thing to ensure that - set power saving “sleep when idle” to NEVER.
