DVBLink crashes after about 10 minutes

Postby jeroen020 » Mon Jun 13, 2016 5:40 pm

This weekend I purchases the upgrade to v6 but unfortunately DVBLink crashes after about 10 minutes of watching. I've seen this happen on the Kodi client on Mac as well as iOS.

I noticed this error in the console where I invoke the start.sh from:

Code: Select all
I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/Applications/DVBLink.app/Contents/dvblink/sources/DVBS-T2/epg/libeitscanner.epg/11567000%3a2%3a2096%3a54115"
dvblink_server(22849,0x700003b6d000) malloc: *** error for object 0x7febf622e8a0: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed.
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
./start.sh: line 14: 22849 Abort trap: 6           ${DVBLINK_ROOT_DIR}/dvblink_server -command_line_mode
mac-mini:dvblink jeroen$

After I invoke the start.sh command, DVBLinks starts again and I can watch for another 10 minutes or so.

Any thoughts on how to fix?

Think the DVB-T epg scanner is causing the crash. I've reconfigured my setup as I use XMLTV and disabled DVB-T epg scanning and so far no more crashes. This used to work in v5.5 and whilst I do not need this functionality I may do in the future so can this be looked at?

Thanks for looking into it. I don't use DVB-T so it may be more generic, perhaps EPG's for all DVB standards are causing problems.
I'm using TV Adviser (NL) as the source for EPG data where possible. For channels that are not included in TV Adviser, I use the 'Default' EPG Source under Configuration -> Channels -> EPG Sources.

How do I switch off DVB epg scanning to see if it solves my problem?

For each tuner do the following -> Configure -> Edit advanced settings -> EPS Scan -> Edit the scanner so that "status" and "use indband event" are not ticked i.e. inactive. Be warned that this might take a few goes as the server may crash whilst you try and change this.

Then make sure that your tuners are no longer providing EPG data by going to Channels -> EPG Sources and the only available EPG source should now be TV Advisor.

Mine hasn't crashed since doing this.

Thanks will give that a try. Would also appreciate if DVBLogic could confirm they're looking into this. Just paid for this upgrade and would be a shame if I can no longer use DVB-based EPG data for the channels that aren't included in TV Advisor.

Thanks @poissony, following your instructions solved the crashing. Too bad I can't have EPG data from the tuners from the channels not covered TV Advisor.

Still hoping from a response from DVBLogic if this bug will be fixed.

Update - DVBLink is still not working well for me. It crashes as soon as I map a channel in the EPG settings from default to TV Adviser:

Haven't seen a response from DVBLink yet in this thread so I guess I'll have to contact them via e-mail. The instability on Mac platform makes it unusable for me.

Since the reinstall I haven't had the crashes after ±10 minutes of viewing. It's much more stable now.
The only problem I have still seen is when I send to dropbox with encoding and deletion of the original file. That seems to still crash DVBLink.
I've tried it without local deletion and then it hasn't crashed, but testing this takes a lot more time...
