TT CT2-4650 CI (1.1) on Ubuntu

Postby mortomanos » Sun Oct 02, 2016 11:06 am

I got the TechnoTrend CT2-4650 CI working on my Ubuntu 16.04.1 (xenial) installation. After looking at the 4.4 kernel sources I noticed that the USB driver for the 1.1 version of this USB device was not patched into the kernel. So I had to use the 4.8 kernel from the yakkety release (will be 16.10 as it will go stable end of October); after installing this kernel and rebooting the machine the USB device was recognized. Could work with 4.6 kernel as well, but I did not check those kernel modules.

Short quick check if the kernel module contains the necessary patch, if the v1.1 is shown, the driver is working:

Code: Select all
# for i in /lib/modules/4.?.0-??-generic/kernel/drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb-v2/dvb-usb-dvbsky.ko; do echo "$i:"; strings $i | grep 4650; done
/lib/modules/4.4.0-38-generic/kernel/drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb-v2/dvb-usb-dvbsky.ko:
TechnoTrend TT-connect CT2-4650 CI
/lib/modules/4.8.0-17-generic/kernel/drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb-v2/dvb-usb-dvbsky.ko:
TechnoTrend TT-connect CT2-4650 CI v1.1
TechnoTrend TT-connect CT2-4650 CI

At the moment I'm not able to scan channels, but maybe this is another issue, I will cross-check with a Windows laptop and report progress.

What does this error message mean:

Code: Select all
[E] CTVSChannelScanner::Scan. Timeout is reached waiting for services to be scanned

I'm trying to scan with the CT2-4650 CI now, and on 650MHz I get 0 services, but there should be some. When connecting to a Windows laptop, I get several services on more transponders.
