Transcoding - Recorded TV

Postby mardibloke » Wed Apr 15, 2015 10:59 am

Trying to play back Recorded TV over low bandwidth connections is not really possible.

Is there advice on an approach to take so that OpenElec/XBMC could playback recorded tv from low bandwidth connections.

Transcoding is working great for Live TV :D

Just bumping this to try and get some ideas on my question.

Can you for example transcode the Recorded TV?

It is not an easy question ;)
At the moment DVBLink cannot form a good transcoded stream out of the recorded TV so that it can be played back on Kodi. It has to do with timestamps. ffmpeg always starts generating pts from 0, which in case of jumps incorrect. Built-in abdroid and iOS players can handle this situation inside the hls stream, but Kodi cannot. We have not found a good workaround yet.

Thanks for responding.

I guess I will look at what I can run on my Ubuntu server to monitor the Recorded TV files, and automatically transcode them to another format.
