Streaming / Recording not working

Postby DasMoritz » Tue Jan 26, 2016 9:55 pm

Hallo,

I have an problem with DVB Link and my virtual machine.
Settings:

- Virtual Machine based on Virtual Box (Windows 10)
- Hardware: HP Microserver Gen 8 (G1610T) with 10GB RAM
- DVB-Stick: PCTV 461e
- USB-Controller: Activated (USB 2.0) EHCI
- The VM has the full access to the 2 cores of the 1610T and approx. 9 GB of RAM.

The PCTV 461e is correctly recognized by DVB Link (5.5.1), I was able to sort the channels etc. - everthing fine.
The problem starts with streaming or recording:

I wanted to record 10 minutes of a HD channel.
The file size is after 10 minutes at about 157 MB. After the recording the video is full of "artifact".
The same problem with streaming on my iphone 6 (in the same WLAN like the server).

Does anybody has any idea?

Thanks a lot,
Moritz

Please check discontinuities/errors on Monitoring tab during streaming.
If the numbers are greater than 0 then probably your virtual machine is not good enough to work with the real tuner hardware.

Hi Oberon,

attached you will find a few screenshots.
1 and 2: SD recording
3: HD recording

There are a lot of discontinuities during the record, unforuntately I don't know why.

Is it possible to see the reason for the discontinuities in the log for e.g.?

The main and usually the only reason for discontinuities is that broken stream comes from a tuner driver.
We have also seen the situation when power saving technologies - speedstep and the likes - have been causing discontinuities.

Another thing - a phenomenon - would to to start VLC in the virtual machine (without any playback) to see if that solves discontinuities.
