dvblink_server handle leak causing malfunction

Postby yamcenutzer » Thu Nov 19, 2015 1:28 am

This has been discussed here
https://forum.dvblogic.com/viewtopic.ph ... eak#p97877

and here:
https://forum.dvblogic.com/viewtopic.ph ... ak#p108044

but it has not changed in over a year.

Right now the only solution seems to be to regularly restart the dvblink_server service. Although this is a valid workaround, it requires some assistance : is there a way to programmatically query the service if it is currently busy, or better still, if it is in fact idle. This would help in restarting the service without disturbing any clients and/or recordings.
If this is not done, then after some time the server becomes erratic, not being able to tune to channels etc. upto the state when nothing goes and clients hang (kodi) or show 'Playready..' (WMC).

Of course it would be better if the handle leak wasn't there in the first place. As I already showed in the first link, it is NOT due to dlna.dll. It seems more general in how client connections are handled/closed/cleaned up. IIRC this problem is new since the 5.xx version. I didn't have it when I was using older 4.5 or 4.6 versions (there were of course other issues there).

Also it seems that remote non-WMC clients (e.g. Kodi) leak more handles than WMC clients, but that is just a feeling.

Please let us know if this is being worked on.

Well, nothing.

It seems the Windows functionality (server, client, WMC) is being abandoned (understandably).
But then, what is unique value of dvblink compared to others?

suggestions:
- Maybe tvheadend with a usable GUI? 64 bit (deCSA is a lot faster here), with camd plugins !!!
- server with power management (nobody seems to care anymore)
- EPG handling with live EIT merging (no-one except WMC offers that). Since you have your own EPG 'service' you can actually control and map EIT events to offline EPG events at least regionally (language, typos, etc)
- live EPG updates pushed to clients so that you can see not only changes, but also services that have only current/next eit (a lot of music and news channels do that)
- a recording service that actually adjusts to live schedule changes !!! Again, only WMC does that.
- an indexed recording format instead of .ts, to handle transmit errors, pmt changes, better time seeking, skipping (not unlike SBE, but vdr did that before also)
