Change of timeshift path

Postby boklu » Thu Mar 05, 2015 9:11 am

Hi,

I use a SSD for the windows and of course DVBLInk installation.
I would like to use a 4 GB RamDisk (I have 8 GB RAM and use the Computer only for DVBLink) for the timeshift folder.
Is that recommendable?
Can you explain how I have to make the changes to the DVBLink configuration?
How long are the timeshift duration?
What happends when the timeshift file gets bigger than the RAM-Disc size?

For Time shifting uses HDD and as i know, for default dvblink server uses up to 4 GB of it. If the timeshift file gets bigger than the 4Gb, he begins to overwrite, ie a new stream overwrites the old

Okay, but how can I change the time shift path?
I want to change it because I think it's better for the life of the ssd!

By default timeshift path is dvblink/share/temp directory. You can change it by adding timeshift_path key to the root of dvblink_configuration.xml file with new path. Beware that all files inside this temp folder will be automatically deleted by DVBLink. And do not forget to stop DVBLink server before changing the path.

Most probably, dvblink_server.exe does not stopped. Try once again, in that case after you have stopped the server go to task Manager and look if there are some dvblink processes

What also should be considered is that Program Files directory does not let you to change files, unless you do it from an administrative command prompt.
You may need to copy dvblink_configuration.xml somewhere else, change file there and copy it back.

... and then it may still be in your virtualstore and not the one the service sees...

When I need to do that, I explicitely open an editor as administartor and then open the file from within the admistrative editor...
