So the App for HDHomerun supports both timeshift and preview when ff/rw, sweet! I assume if they can do it it theoretically should be possible for DVBLogic as well, or are they using something unique in their hardware?

At least Channels app supports timeshift perfectly with HDHomerun. I don't see why couldn't DVBLogic to the same?

Most probably Channels support timeshifting locally - e.g. either in RAM or flash.

Yep, I believe it is not possible otherwise. Cannot see why DVBLink couldn't do the same...

We do not do it locally, because the capacity of the timeshift buffer will be very limited in this case.
It will be done on the server side, but then without ff and fb - only jumps.

Ok, what is then the reason you hesitate implementing timeshift for the ATV4?

It just takes time.

What about to slide in the timeline of the live tv buffer with a visible thumbnail of the actual position? Isn't this the best solution to go to a specific position of the buffer?

Oh my god! My english! I hope you understand what I mean...

I don't know how Channels app does it but it can keep a live TV buffer of at least an hour and I think even a lot longer, just trying it out now. How long buffer are you planning to implement?

Interesting, then I assume it can't be done in RAM and definitely not locally on ATV4.

@jepperi: could you test the maximum Time when watching a HD channel?

It must be done locally since I only have HDHomerun and ATV4 in the setup. There is no server to store cache...

I just put on a HD channel, will get back to u later with cache times...

Now cached 41 minutes of HD stream...

65 minutes now, still caching on... I think it can be said that there is enough space for caching...

The available space for caching is related to the amount of apps you have installed on ATV I think.

How do you measure? You just put it on pause and wait? If you did, try to resume playback to see if the content was actually stored all this time. One hour of HD channel is approx. 4-5 GB. There is no magic, it has to be found somewhere - either in ram or in flash.
